It is extremely important that you get a recommendation from your treating qualified medical professional and that he/she is aware of your situation.
The following safety information is adapted from guidelines made available from the Bowling-Pfizer settlement fund and can be downloaded here.
Be sure to let your family and coworkers know of your situation and have the following information on your person at all times:.
- Correct Name and Address
- Emergency Room telephone number
- Treating Physician Telephone Number
Be sure that you have information available on where the nearest hospital which can perform emergency cardiac surgery is located. The hospital should:
- Be made aware that you have a BSCC Valve
- Have an implant valve prosthesis on site
- Be informed that a chest X-Ray should be done immediately to assess if the BSCC valve is structurally intact
If you are traveling to a remote location some prior research is required. You should investigate which hospitals in that area can perform emergency valve replacement surgery. The contact information of that hospital should be on your person at all times. The remote hospital should have all information available to them that your "home hospital" would have had you remained at home.
